OBJECTIVES
To use my 10 years of teaching experience and 20 years of
research and engineering experience in a useful way. That
includes teaching/training in a corporate or academic
setting, doing original research, facilitating
organizations with R&D and/or educational goals.
PROFILE
Physicist. Engineer. Teacher.
EXPERIENCE
Teacher
Alliance Marc and Eva Stern Math and Science School,
Los Angeles, California ---- Fall 2014-Present
Taught 9th grade STEM, 11th/12th grade Physics and AP
Physics C (calculus based).
Teacher
El Rancho High School, Pico Rivera, California ----
Fall 2008-Spring 2014
Taught 9th grade Earth Science, 10th grade Chemistry and
11th/12th grade Physics.
Senior Scientist
Promethean Devices, LLC, Fort Mill, South Carolina ----
2005-2010
Invented new technology for increasing the amount of power
that can be safely shipped over high-voltage transmission
lines. U.S. Patent WO 2008031029 A2, “Sensor, Method, and
System of Monitoring Transmission Lines.”
Senior Engineer
Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California ----
1997-2007
Developed new technology for NASA missions. Examples
include laser tools to measure distance changes to an
accuracy of 10 trillionths of a meter for the Space
Interferometry Mission (for finding extra-solar planets)
and electronics for measuring radio frequency phases to one
millionth of a cycle for the LISA mission (for detecting
gravitational waves). U.S. Patent 7,511,469, “Phase
measurement device using in-phase and quadrature components
for phase estimation.” Responsibilities also included
mentoring students and fresh talent.
Research Physicist
University of California at Irvine, Irvine, California
---- 1989-1997
Designed and built portions of the Super-Kamiokande
neutrino observatory. Analyzed physics results from the IMB
proton-decay and neutrino observatory. Supervised graduate
students working for the neutrino observatories.
Lecturer
University of California at Irvine, Irvine, California
---- Summer, 1994
Taught course covering material properties, fluids, wave
mechanics, optics, relativity, and modern physics.
Research Associate
University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona ----
1984-1989
(Ph.D. thesis work.) Created atmospheric fluorescence
sensor for observing ultra-high energy cosmic rays. (UHE
cosmic rays are particles produced in violent shocks in
space, such as those produced by supernovae.) Helped design
and build the first large-scale muonium production
apparatus. (Muonium is similar to hydrogen, however the
nuclear proton is replaced by a muon.)
Engineer/Physicist
Bell Technical Operations (Textron Corporation),
Tucson, Arizona ---- 1983
Analyzed military radio vulnerabilities in war scenarios.
Constructed an enemy radio jamming simulator.
Research Assistant
University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona ----
1981-1982
(Medical physics.) Created data collection system for
ultrasonic thermo-accoustic imaging of cancers.
EDUCATION
Cal Poly Pomona
Pomona, California — Single-subject teaching credential
in physics & chemistry ---- 2009
University of Arizona
Tucson, Arizona — Ph.D. in Physics ---- 1989
New York University
New York, New York — B.A. in Physics with minor in Art
History ---- 1980
